Why Kids Should Bring Their Bibles to Grow Kids
Why Kids Should Bring Their Bibles to Church on Sunday
For kids, faith grows best when it becomes personal. When a child carries their own Bible into Grow Kids on Sunday morning, something important happens. They aren’t just listening to a story—they’re participating in discovering God’s Word for themselves. There are five reasons why you and elementary children should remember their Bibles on Sunday mornings in Grow Kids:
1. It Helps Kids See That the Bible Is The Authority
When kids bring their Bibles, they learn that what we teach doesn’t come from opinions or ideas—it comes from Scripture. When they open their Bible and see the verse for themselves, they begin to understand that God’s Word is trustworthy and true. Remember - God's Word is ALIVE! We want kids to experience this in Grow Kids on Sundays!
As the Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” When kids see this firsthand, it builds a foundation of faith that lasts a lifetime.
2. It Teaches Kids How to Use the Bible
Let me ask you parent: Do YOU know the books of the Bible from memory? Many adults wish they had learned earlier how to find verses, understand chapters and books, and navigate Scripture. Grow Kids is the perfect place for kids to practice these skills. We will be learning to memorize the books of the Bible this year in Grow Kids Estates.
When our Grow Kids leader says, “Turn to the Gospel of Matthew,” and kids flip through the pages, they are learning how to explore God’s Word on their own. These small moments teach them confidence in reading and understanding the Bible.
3. It Makes Faith Active, Not Passive
Kids who bring their Bibles are more engaged. Instead of simply hearing a story, they follow along, underline verses, and see the words for themselves. This turns Grow Kids from something they watch and see into something they actively participate and engage in.
When children interact with Scripture, they remember it longer and understand it deeper.
4. It Builds Ownership of Their Faith
Do you remember the very first Bible you ever received? I still have mine from when I gave my life to Jesus. I still go back to it and read my notes I wrote in it. When a child has their own Bible, it becomes special. They might highlight a favorite verse, write their name inside the cover, or remember the day they received it.
Over time, that Bible becomes a record of their growing faith.
Psalm 119 reminds us how important this is: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” — Psalms 119:11
5. It Creates a Culture of Loving God’s Word
One of my desires over the past 17 years of kids ministry is for children to fall in love with Scripture. When kids walk into church carrying Bibles, it sends a powerful message: God’s Word matters here. It creates a culture where Scripture is valued, respected, and explored together.
Soon, bringing a Bible isn’t just something Grow Kids asks them to do—it becomes something they are EXCITED to do!
A Simple Habit That Changes Everything
Encouraging kids to bring their Bibles each Sunday might seem small, but the impact is huge. It helps them learn, engage, and build a personal connection with God’s Word.
The goal of Grow Kids isn’t just to teach Bible stories—it’s to help children fall in love with the Bible itself.
And sometimes, that journey begins with something as simple as bringing their Bible to church. 📖✨
